Inquiry into the Discipline of Fasting

प्रत्यक्ष भिन्नहृदया भेदयेयु: कृतं नरा: । श्रियाभितप्ता: कौन्तेय भेदकामास्तथारय:,यदि बड़ा भाई प्रत्यक्षरूपसे अपराधका दण्ड देता है तो उसके छोटे भाइयोंका हृदय छिन्न-भिन्न हो जाता है और वे उस दुर्व्यवहारका लोगोंमें प्रचार कर देते हैं, तब उनके ऐश्वर्यको देखकर जलनेवाले कितने ही शत्रु उनमें मतभेद पैदा करनेकी इच्छा करने लगते हैं

pratyakṣa-bhinnahṛdayā bhedayeyuḥ kṛtaṃ narāḥ | śriyābhitaptāḥ kaunteya bhedakāmās tathārayāḥ ||

Bhishma sprach: „Wenn der ältere Bruder für ein Vergehen offen Strafe verhängt, werden die Herzen der jüngeren Brüder zerrissen und verwundet; und sie tragen diese harte Behandlung unter die Leute. Sehen sie ihren Wohlstand, so beginnen viele Feinde — von Neid verzehrt, o Sohn der Kunti — Zwietracht unter ihnen zu wünschen und zu säen.“
