रक्तमाल्यं न धार्य स्याच्छुक्लं धार्य तु पण्डितै: । वर्जयित्वा तु कमलं तथा कुवलयं प्रभो

Transliteration

raktamālyaṃ na dhāryaṃ syāc chuklaṃ dhāryaṃ tu paṇḍitaiḥ | varjayitvā tu kamalaṃ tathā kuvalayaṃ prabho ||

Translation

Bhīṣma sprach: „Eine Girlande aus roten Blumen soll man nicht tragen; die Gelehrten sollen eine weiße tragen. Doch, o Herr, diese Regel gilt erst nach der Ausnahme von Lotus und Kuvalaya (blauer Lotus); selbst wenn sie rötlich sind, liegt kein Fehl darin, sie zu tragen.“
