Nahūṣa Episode and the Commendation of Lamp-Gifting and Household Offerings
यत्र वक्ष्यसि तत्र त्वां नयिष्यामि सुराधिप । इत्युक्तो नहुषस्तेन योजयामास त॑ मुनिम्
yatra vakṣyasi tatra tvāṁ nayiṣyāmi surādhipa | ity ukto nahuṣas tena yojayāmāsa taṁ munim ||
Bhishma sprach: „O Herr der Götter, wohin du befiehlst, dorthin werde ich dich tragen.“ So angesprochen, ließ Nahusha den Weisen an den Wagen spannen.
भीष्म उवाच
Power must be exercised within dharma: compelling a sage into degrading labor out of pride is adharma, and such arrogance becomes the seed of one’s ruin.
Indra is to be carried to a place he indicates; Nahusha, having been told this, orders that the sage (Agastya in the surrounding narrative) be yoked to the chariot, forcing him to serve as the bearer.
