The verse highlights the dharmic importance of clear assent (“tathā iti”) to stated conditions: once a condition is accepted, it becomes binding, and ethical order is maintained through honoring one’s word—especially in royal and marital commitments.
A woman states a condition; the king accepts it explicitly. Upon gaining him as her husband, she experiences incomparable joy. The narrator Vaiśampāyana reports this moment to the listener addressed as “best of the Bharatas.”
