ययातेर्वानप्रस्थतपःस्वर्गारोहणम् | Yayāti’s Vānaprastha Austerities and Ascent to Heaven

ययातिरुवाच अधर्मो न स्पृशेदेष महान्‌ मामिह भार्गव | वर्णसंकरजो ब्रद्वान्निति त्वां प्रवृणोम्पहम्‌,ययाति बोले--भार्गव ब्रह्मन! मैं आपसे यह वर माँगता हूँ कि इस विवाहमें यह प्रत्यक्ष दीखनेवाला वर्णसंकरजनित महान्‌ अधर्म मेरा स्पर्श न करे

yayātir uvāca | adharmo na spṛśed eṣa mahān mām iha bhārgava | varṇasaṅkarajo brāhmaṇn iti tvāṃ pravṛṇomy aham ||

Yayāti sprach: „O Bhārgava, o Brahmane! In dieser Sache möge mich jenes große Adharma niemals berühren, das aus der sichtbaren Gefahr der Vermischung der Varṇas in dieser Ehe entsteht. Dies ist die Gabe, die ich von dir erwähle.“
