Duḥṣanta–Śakuntalā: Gandharva Marriage and Succession Condition
गणस्त्वप्सरसां यो वै मया राजन प्रकीर्तित: । तस्य भाग: क्षितौ जज्ञे नियोगाद् वासवस्य ह,महाराज! मैंने अप्सराओोंके जिस समुदायका वर्णन किया है, उसका अंश भी इन्द्रके आदेशसे इस पृथ्वीपर उत्पन्न हुआ था
gaṇas tv apsarasāṃ yo vai mayā rājan prakīrtitaḥ | tasya bhāgaḥ kṣitau jajñe niyogād vāsavasya ha ||
Vaiśampāyana sprach: „O König, die Schar der Apsaras, die ich geschildert habe — ein Anteil eben dieser Gemeinschaft wurde auf dieser Erde geboren, wahrlich auf Geheiß Vasavas (Indras).“
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores that extraordinary births and historical developments can be presented as arising from divine injunction within a larger cosmic order—events on earth may be portrayed as purposeful manifestations of celestial agencies.
Vaiśampāyana reminds the king that the Apsarases previously enumerated were not only celestial; a portion of their group took birth on earth, explicitly said to have occurred through Indra’s command.
