Duḥṣanta–Śakuntalā: Gandharva Marriage and Succession Condition
The verse teaches that the Pāṇḍavas’ heirs (Draupadī’s five sons) are not ordinary births but manifestations of a divine collective (the Viśvedevas), implying that moral responsibility and historical consequence in the epic are grounded in a larger cosmic design.
Vaiśampāyana identifies the true divine origin of Draupadī’s five sons, stating that they are the embodied Viśvedevas, thereby elevating their status and foreshadowing their role within the epic’s unfolding destiny.
