Duḥṣanta at Kaṇva-Āśrama; Śakuntalā’s Reception and Origin Prelude (दुःषन्तस्य कण्वाश्रमागमनम्)

जनमेजय उवाच देवदानवसड्घानां गन्धर्वाप्सरसां तथा । मानवानां च सर्वेषां तथा वै यक्षरक्षसाम्‌,जनमेजय बोले--भगवन्‌! मैं देवता, दानवसमुदाय, गन्धर्व, अप्सरा, मनुष्य, यक्ष, राक्षस तथा सम्पूर्ण प्राणियोंकी उत्पत्ति यथार्थरूपसे सुनना चाहता हूँ। आप कृपा करके आरम्भसे ही इन सबकी उत्पत्तिका यथावत्‌ वर्णन कीजिये

janamejaya uvāca: devadānavasaṅghānāṁ gandharvāpsarasāṁ tathā | mānavānāṁ ca sarveṣāṁ tathā vai yakṣarakṣasām ||

Janamejaya sprach: „Ehrwürdiger Herr, ich wünsche wahrheitsgemäß und in geordneter Folge den Ursprung aller Wesen zu hören—der Scharen der Götter und Dānavas, der Gandharvas und Apsarasen, aller Menschen, und ebenso der Yakṣas und Rākṣasas. Bitte berichte mir von ihren Anfängen von ganz zu Beginn an, so wie es sich wirklich zutrug.“
