Vyāsa’s Arrival at Janamejaya’s Sarpasatra; Commissioning of Vaiśaṃpāyana’s Recital (व्यासागमनम्)

स तत्र वारितो द्वा:स्थै: प्रविशन्‌ द्विजसत्तम: । अभितुष्टाव त॑ यज्ञ प्रवेशार्थी परंतप:,द्विजश्रेष्ठ आस्तीक जब यज्ञमण्डपमें प्रवेश करने लगे, उस समय द्वारपालोंने उन्हें रोक दिया। तब काम-क्रोध आदि शत्रुओंको संतप्त करनेवाले आस्तीक उसमें प्रवेश करनेकी इच्छा रखकर उस यज्ञकी स्तुति करने लगे

sa tatra vārito dvāḥsthaiḥ praviśan dvijasattamaḥ | abhituṣṭāva taṁ yajña-praveśārthī parantapaḥ ||

Dort, als der Vordere unter den Brahmanen eintreten wollte, hielten ihn die Torwächter zurück. Um Zutritt zum Yajña zu erlangen, begann Āstīka—der innere Feinde wie Begierde und Zorn versengt—das Opfer mit ehrfürchtigen Worten zu preisen, um rechtmäßigen Einlass zu gewinnen statt sich gewaltsam Zugang zu verschaffen.
