Ādi-parva Adhyāya 3 — Janamejaya’s Rite, Dhaumya’s Parīkṣā, and Uttanka’s Kuṇḍala Quest

Educational Q&A

The passage highlights guru-sevā and self-restraint: the student accepts the teacher’s discipline, maintains respectful conduct, and strengthens his vow (renouncing milk) to uphold integrity and obedience as part of dharmic training.

Upamanyu continues tending the cows as assigned, returns to the teacher’s home, stands before the guru, and offers salutations. The teacher approves his conduct, and Upamanyu further pledges not to drink milk, continuing his duties with renewed austerity.
