Educational Q&A

A pledge made openly before a witness—especially involving a divine guardian—creates a strong ethical obligation (dharma) to honor one’s word and uphold entrusted protection.

Vaiśampāyana recalls that, in his presence, someone entrusted certain sons to Agni, and Agni in turn promised to protect them—invoking the authority of witnessed vows to affirm responsibility and accountability.
