वैशम्पायन उवाच यदर्थ शार्कईकानग्निर्न ददाह तथागते । तत्‌ ते सर्व प्रवक्ष्यामि यथाभूतमरिंदम,वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं--शत्रुदमन जनमेजय! वैसे भयंकर अग्निकाण्डमें भी अग्निदेवने जिस कारणसे शाडूर्गकोंको दग्ध नहीं किया और जिस प्रकार वह घटना घटित हुई, वह सब मैं तुम्हें बताता हूँ, सुनो

vaiśampāyana uvāca | yadarthaṃ śārkāikān agnir na dadāha tathāgate | tat te sarvaṃ pravakṣyāmi yathābhūtam ariṃdama ||

Vaiśampāyana sprach: „O Bezwinger der Feinde, ich will dir vollständig und der Wahrheit gemäß darlegen, weshalb Agni, obwohl jener schreckliche Brand bereits ausgebrochen war, die Śārkāikas nicht verbrannte, und wie sich jenes Ereignis genau zutrug. Höre zu.“
