Aurva’s Containment of the Wrath-Fire
वपुषा वर्चसा चैव शिखामिव विभावसो: । प्रसन्नत्वेन कान्त्या च चन्द्ररेखामिवामलाम्,शरीर और तेजसे वह आगकी ज्वाला-सी जान पड़ती थी। उसकी प्रसन्नता और कमनीय कान्तिसे ऐसा प्रतीत होता था, मानो वह निर्मल चन्द्रकला हो
vapuṣā varcasā caiva śikhām iva vibhāvasoḥ | prasannatvena kāntyā ca candrarekhām ivāmalām ||
Der Gandharva sprach: „Durch ihre Gestalt und ihren strahlenden Glanz erschien sie wie eine Feuerflamme; und durch ihre heitere Ruhe und liebliche Leuchtkraft glich sie einer makellosen Mondsichel.“
गन्धर्व उवाच
The verse suggests that genuine excellence is perceived through luminous qualities—radiance, serenity, and purity. Ethical worth is implied through inner clarity (prasannatva) that manifests outwardly as calm beauty and auspicious presence.
A Gandharva describes a woman’s striking appearance using two similes: she looks like a flame because of her form and brilliance, and like a spotless crescent moon because of her serene happiness and charming luster. It functions as elevated praise and characterization within the episode.
