Before undertaking a significant action, one should act with dharmic courtesy: seek elders’ consent and blessings, show reverence (pradakṣiṇā), and take respectful leave of the wider community. The verse models ethical conduct in transitions—departure is not merely physical but moral and social.
The departing party, after obtaining permission from their mothers and bidding farewell to the subjects, begins the journey to Vāraṇāvata. This marks the formal, publicly acknowledged departure from their current residence toward the destination central to the unfolding plot.
