Ādi-parva Adhyāya 141: Bhīma–Hiḍimba Confrontation and Protective Discourse

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how political power, once legitimately secured, tends to stabilize through hereditary succession; it also exposes the ethical tension between rightful inheritance (dāyāda) and the rival’s fear-driven resistance to that legitimacy.

Duryodhana is reasoning that if the Pāṇḍavas gain the kingdom, the rule will remain with their lineage through sons and grandsons, effectively ending the Kauravas’ prospects—revealing his anxiety about losing power permanently.
