सनाम्नी या भवित्री मे दित्सिता चैव बन्धुभि: | भैक्ष्यवत्तामहं कन्यामुपयंस्ये विधानतः,(वह शर्त यों है--) जिस कनन्‍्याका नाम मेरे नामके ही समान हो, जिसे उसके भाई-बन्धु स्वयं मुझे देनेकी इच्छासे रखते हों और जो भिक्षाकी भाँति स्वयं प्राप्त हुई हो, उसी कन्याका मैं शास्त्रीय विधिके अनुसार पाणिग्रहण करूँगा

Transliteration

sanāmnī yā bhavitrī me ditsitā caiva bandhubhiḥ | bhaikṣyavattām ahaṃ kanyām upayaṃsye vidhānataḥ ||

Translation

Śaunaka sprach: „Gemäß der Vorschrift der Schriften werde ich nur jene Jungfrau nach dem Ritus zur Frau nehmen, deren Name dem meinen gleicht, die ihre Verwandten selbst willens sind, mir zu geben, und die zu mir kommt, als wäre sie wie Almosen erlangt — ungesucht und frei dargeboten.“
