तुड्पद्मकमिश्रेण चन्दनेन सुगन्धिना | अन्यैश्न विविधैर्गन्धर्विधिना समदाहयन्,फिर तुंग और पद्मकमिश्रित सुगन्धित चन्दन तथा अन्य विविध प्रकारके गन्ध-द्रव्योंसे भाई-बन्धुओंने युधिष्लिरद्वारा विधिपूर्वक उन दोनोंका दाह-संस्कार कराया
tuṅgapadmakamiśreṇa candanena sugandhinā | anyaiś ca vividhair gandhair vidhinā samadāhayan ||
Vaiśampāyana sprach: Mit duftendem Sandelholz, vermischt mit tuṅga und padmaka, und mit weiteren mannigfaltigen Wohlgerüchen vollzogen die Verwandten—nach rechtem Ritus—die Einäscherung der beiden, wobei Yudhiṣṭhira in gebührender Form den Vorsitz führte.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dharma as the faithful performance of prescribed rites (vidhi), especially the duty of relatives to honor the dead through proper saṃskāras, using sanctified materials and correct procedure.
Relatives conduct the cremation of two deceased persons, using fragrant sandalwood mixed with tuṅga and padmaka and other aromatics, with Yudhiṣṭhira overseeing the rite in accordance with tradition.
