Adhyāya 123 — Droṇa’s Pedagogy: Arjuna’s Preeminence, Ekalavya’s Self-Training, and the Bhāsa-Lakṣya Trial
दातुमिच्छति ते पुत्रं यथा संकल्पितं त्वया । अतिमानुषकर्माणं यशस्विनमरिंदमम्,महात्मा इन्द्रके यों कहनेपर धर्मात्मा कुरुनन्दन महाराज पाण्डु बड़े प्रसन्न हुए और देवराजके वचनोंका स्मरण करते हुए कुन्तीदेवीसे बोले--“कल्याणि! तुम्हारे व्रतका भावी परिणाम मंगलमय है। देवताओंके स्वामी इन्द्र हमलोगोंपर संतुष्ट हैं और तुम्हें तुम्हारे संकल्पके अनुसार श्रेष्ठ पुत्र देना चाहते हैं। वह अलौकिक कर्म करनेवाला, यशस्वी, शत्रुदमन, नीतिज्ञ, महामना, सूर्यके समान तेजस्वी, दुर्धर्ष, कर्मठ तथा देखनेमें अत्यन्त अद्भुत होगा
śakra uvāca | dātum icchati te putraṃ yathā saṃkalpitaṃ tvayā | atimānuṣa-karmāṇaṃ yaśasvinaṃ arindamam ||
„Er will dir einen Sohn schenken, genau wie du es beschlossen hast. Er wird Taten vollbringen, die das Maß gewöhnlicher Menschen übersteigen – ruhmreich und ein Bezwinger der Feinde.“
