Pāṇḍu’s Marriages, Conquests, and Triumphal Return (पाण्डोर्विवाह-विजय-प्रत्यागमनम्)
ईप्सितं ते करिष्यामि दृष्टं होतत् सनातनम् । भ्रातुः पुत्रान् प्रदास्यामि मित्रावरुणयो: समान्
īpsitaṃ te kariṣyāmi dṛṣṭaṃ hotat sanātanam | bhrātuḥ putrān pradāsyāmi mitrāvaruṇayoḥ samān
Vyāsa sprach: „Ich werde erfüllen, was du begehrst, gemäß der uralten, ehrwürdigen Ordnung, die erkannt und bewahrt worden ist. Ich werde dir Söhne schenken wie die von Mitra und Varuṇa — ihnen an Vortrefflichkeit gleich.“

The verse frames the fulfillment of a personal desire within “sanātana” (time-honored) dharma: even extraordinary acts like granting progeny are presented as legitimate when aligned with established ethical-ritual precedent and aimed at preserving rightful lineage and social order.
Vyāsa promises to fulfill the request for offspring, assuring that he will provide sons—specifically the brother’s sons—who will be comparable to the famed sons associated with the divine pair Mitra and Varuṇa, emphasizing their exceptional quality and legitimacy.
