FAQs

This verse does not teach Atman-metaphysics directly; it belongs to a prayāścitta/tapas context, emphasizing bodily discipline and the gravity of certain transgressions rather than non-dual Self-doctrine.

Not meditation in the Pāśupata-yoga sense, but an extreme austerity: standing upright, facing south, unmoving until collapse—used as a form of expiatory tapas within dharma regulations.

It does not explicitly mention Śiva or Viṣṇu; its place in the Kurma Purana reflects the text’s broader dharma-tapas framework that later supports Shaiva-Vaishnava synthesis, but this specific śloka is purely expiatory.
