Lord Vishnu (in discourse to Garuda/Vinata-putra)

Concept: Prepare with austerity and purity, then worship Viṣṇu—Sarveśvara—who is both the ultimate doer and the enjoyer/receiver of offerings (kartā-bhoktā).

Vedantic Theme: Īśvara as antaryāmin and ultimate enjoyer (bhoktā) of yajña; karma becomes purified through īśvara-arpaṇa, reducing egoic kartṛtva and aligning action with devotion.

Application: Before rites, cultivate bodily cleanliness and mental steadiness; avoid impure associations; perform worship with the understanding that offerings ultimately reach Viṣṇu—supporting sincerity, humility, and focus.

Secondary Rasa: bhakti

FAQs

This verse states that fasting, proper bathing, purity of association, and mental focus are prerequisites for effective worship—especially in rites connected with offerings and post-death observances.

It emphasizes Vishnu as the supreme controller: the ultimate agent behind actions and the true recipient of offerings and their fruits, aligning ritual action with devotion to the highest Lord.

Before any prayer, śrāddha, or memorial rite, adopt simple discipline—cleanliness, a restrained diet/fast, avoiding defiling influences, and mindful attention—then dedicate the act to Vishnu as the supreme recipient.
