उदकुम्भेन पुष्टानि तान्यस्थीनि भवन्ति हि / एतस्माद्दीयते कुम्भः प्रीतिः प्रेतस्य जायते

udakumbhena puṣṭāni tānyasthīni bhavanti hi / etasmāddīyate kumbhaḥ prītiḥ pretasya jāyate

Wahrlich, durch die Darbringung des Wasserkruges werden jene feinen Bestandteile genährt und werden zu Knochen. Darum wird der Wasserkrug gegeben; aus ihm erwachsen dem preta (dem Geist des Verstorbenen) Zufriedenheit und Trost.
