Sapindīkaraṇa: Timing, Eligibility, Gotra Rules, and Yearlong Śrāddha

with Vṛṣotsarga and Ghaṭa-dāna

एकगोत्रे मृतानां तु स्त्रिया वा पुरुषस्य वा / स्थण्डिलं चैकतः कुर्याद्धोमं कुर्यात्पृथक्पृथक्

ekagotre mṛtānāṃ tu striyā vā puruṣasya vā / sthaṇḍilaṃ caikataḥ kuryāddhomaṃ kuryātpṛthakpṛthak

Wenn Todesfälle innerhalb derselben Abstammungslinie (ein Gotra) auftreten – sei es eine Frau oder ein Mann – sollte man einen einzigen Ritualplatz (Sthaṇḍila) gemeinsam vorbereiten, aber die Feueropfer (Homa) für jeden Einzelnen getrennt durchführen.

In the Preta Kanda context, correct, individualized rites support the departed’s post-death transition; even when deaths occur in one lineage, the offerings are not merged, preserving each person’s separate ritual entitlement.
