Praise of Vṛṣotsarga (Bull-release), Worthy Dāna, and the Procedure for Kṣayāha & Ūrdhva-daihika Rites
Lord Vishnu
Beneficiary: Pitr
Concept: Perform homa according to capacity, with appropriate mantras; establish/invoke grahas first as a foundational harmonizing step.
Vedantic Theme: Niṣkāma-karma’s practicality: sincerity and order matter; capacity-based duty reduces anxiety and supports sattva.
Application: Do not overreach in ritual expense/complexity; follow sequence—preliminary invocations/śānti first, then main offerings.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Type: ritual site
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 2.14 (graha-sthāpana as pūrva-kriyā before fuller homa/śrāddha)
This verse presents homa as a key supportive rite, to be done with appropriate mantras and scaled to one’s capacity, as part of pacifying and sanctifying the ritual process.
It indicates a ritual sequence: harmonizing planetary influences through graha-sthāpana is to be done beforehand, so subsequent rites like homa proceed without obstacles and with greater auspiciousness.
Perform rituals within your means (yathāśakti) and follow a clear, orderly procedure—begin with preparatory invocations (such as Navagraha) and then proceed to the main offering (homa) with proper mantras.
