Garuda (Vinata-putra), expressing a vow in the discourse with Lord Vishnu
Concept: Viṣṇu-prītyartha-vrata: all offerings and enjoyables are consecrated for the Lord’s delight, not egoic merit.
Vedantic Theme: Renunciation through offering (tyāga via arpana); bhakti as the purifier of karma and desire.
Application: Before consumption or gifting, mentally offer to Viṣṇu; keep a simple daily arcana/naivedya practice; renew the vow regularly.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
Type: ritual/temple space (implied)
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 3.6.18 (all actions as worship)
This verse teaches that the spiritual value of worship lies in intention—everything offered (sandalwood, flowers, incense, cloth, food) should be consciously dedicated for Viṣṇu’s pleasure as a continual vow.
By emphasizing constant Viṣṇu-centered devotion, it points to purification of karma through right worship, which supports a favorable spiritual destiny rather than mere external ritualism.
Before any worship or charity, mentally dedicate the act and its materials to Viṣṇu, keeping the practice consistent (vrata) rather than occasional.
