with Dāna-Lakṣaṇas
Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Specific sacred gifts, when given in the right place and manner, yield powerful karmic fruit; śāstra assures certainty of result.
Vedantic Theme: Karma-phala-niyama under Īśvara: results are governed by cosmic order; ritualized giving can elevate one’s worldly and spiritual standing when aligned with dharma and devotion.
Application: If undertaking major dāna, do it with proper sankalpa, purity, and qualified guidance; treat promised ‘phala’ as encouragement toward generosity and devotion, not as mere transaction.
Primary Rasa: vira
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Type: tirtha
Related Themes: Garuda Purana (phala-śruti style assurances for dāna and tīrtha acts in the same adhyāya)
This verse presents it as a rare form of ritual gifting that yields exceptionally high merit, described as leading to a status like royal consecration (paṭṭābhiṣeka).
In the Preta Kanda context, dāna is taught as a means to generate punya that supports auspicious outcomes; this verse highlights a specific dāna with a strongly stated फल (result).
Practice sincere, capacity-based charity within a dharmic framework—especially during śrāddha or memorial rites—focusing on intention, correctness of ritual context, and benefit to recipients.
