Lord Vishnu (addressing Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Smṛti (remembrance) as a divine power: the indwelling principle in all hearts is known/realized by uttering and remembering Viṣṇu’s name.
Vedantic Theme: Antaryāmin (Inner Controller) and nāma as upāya (means) for direct recognition of the indwelling Reality.
Application: Cultivate daily nāma-smaraṇa/japa of Viṣṇu with heart-centered attention; use remembrance as a constant inner practice rather than occasional ritual.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 3.16.27-30 (Vāyu as Mukti; citta/saṃjñāna; heart-dwelling enhancer of bhakti)
This verse presents constant remembrance as a divine faculty—‘Smṛti’—through which the heart-dwelling Lord is recognized, emphasizing sustained spiritual recollection as a direct means of realization.
By linking realization to Viṣṇu’s utterance and inner presence, it implies that at crucial transitions (including death), remembrance/recitation anchors consciousness in the divine, guiding the soul toward auspicious states rather than confusion or fear.
Maintain daily Viṣṇu-nāma japa or simple name-remembrance so the mind forms a steady habit of smaraṇa—especially helpful in crisis, grief, and end-of-life contexts.
