Nirūpaṇa (Nāḍī–Svara-Nirūpaṇam): Breath Currents, Omens, and Action-Timing
Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Prāṇa sustains embodied life; actions (kārya) should be initiated with auspicious nimittas to align effort with favorable currents.
Vedantic Theme: Prāṇa as a functional principle within the upādhi; karma is to be performed with awareness of conditions, while ultimate Self remains beyond life/death (implicit).
Application: Before initiating important tasks, ensure vitality/clarity (prāṇa, attention) and seek favorable timing/signs; avoid acting in depleted states that mimic ‘śūnyatā’ (inertia/void).
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: karuna
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.67.25-26 (omens); Garuda Purana 1.67.28 (nāḍī framework)
This verse states that a being lives by prāṇa; without it the condition is inert and “empty,” highlighting prāṇa as the sustaining principle behind embodied life.
It advises that prescribed actions (kārya)—including dharmic and ritual duties—should be done with śubha-lakṣaṇa, i.e., favorable indications such as “jaya” (success/victory), emphasizing auspicious alignment for effective rites.
Value life as supported by prāṇa and approach duties with clarity and auspicious intent—choose suitable timing/conditions for important dharmic actions and avoid careless, inauspicious execution.
