Wer behaglich geschlafen hat, bei dem fließen Speichel und andere Körperabsonderungen fortwährend; darum soll man keine Riten oder Pflichten verrichten, ohne sich zuvor zu Beginn gebadet zu haben.
Lord Vishnu (in instruction to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Because bodily secretions occur during sleep, one should not begin rites/karma without first bathing.
Vedantic Theme: External śauca supports internal sattva; disciplined preparation reduces rajas/tamas before worship and duty.
Application: Do not rush into pūjā/japa/important duties immediately after waking; first cleanse (bath or at least thorough washing per circumstance) to establish readiness and respect.
Primary Rasa: bibhatsa
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Type: domestic space (after sleep)
Related Themes: Garuda Purana: śauca as prerequisite for all karmas; emphasis on bodily purity before worship
This verse states that after sleep the body is considered impure due to natural secretions, so bathing first is required before performing any religious duties or rites.
It frames ritual action (karma) as needing a proper, purified starting condition—snāna—so that duties are performed in a state fit for sacred acts.
Before puja, japa, or other observances—especially after waking—cleanse yourself (ideally bathe) to begin spiritual practice with physical and mental readiness.
