Lord Vishnu (in instruction to Garuda/Vinata-putra)

Concept: Maintain canonical proportions (jāṅghā/ūru/garbha/śukāṅghri) so the prāsāda attains harmony and auspicious form.

Vedantic Theme: Form as a vehicle for the formless: disciplined proportion supports sattva and contemplative stability; sacred art as upāya (support) for devotion.

Application: Apply proportional ratios consistently across vertical elements; ensure base/shaft/trunk/footing are balanced—neither squat nor top-heavy.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Type: architectural proportional system

FAQs

This verse presents a prescriptive, measured view of bodily formation, reflecting the text’s broader concern with how embodied existence is structured and understood in dharmic cosmology.

Indirectly: by emphasizing the constructed nature of embodiment, it supports the Garuda Purana’s larger framework where the soul’s journey is experienced through specific bodies (gross/subtle) shaped by cosmic order and karma.

It encourages disciplined, reverential understanding of the body as an ordered instrument for dharma—supporting ethical living, self-restraint, and purposeful practice rather than mere indulgence.
