Lord Viṣṇu (speaking to Garuḍa / Vinatā-putra)

Concept: Seasonal observances matter: omission of prescribed pavitraka worship in prāvṛṭ undermines the efficacy (phala) of annual pūjā.

Vedantic Theme: Karma-kāṇḍa niyama: right means (vidhi) conditions the fruit; intention alone is insufficient when śāstra prescribes specific supports.

Application: During monsoon, reinforce daily worship with prescribed pavitraka/pavitra measures (cleanliness, replacement of wilted flowers, dry offerings, disciplined routine) so yearly vows and festivals retain continuity.

Primary Rasa: bhayanaka

Secondary Rasa: karuna

Type: household/temple shrine

FAQs

This verse states that worship done without pavitraka—especially in the rainy season—loses efficacy, implying pavitraka functions as a required sanctifier for the rite’s validity.

Indirectly: it emphasizes that correct observance of prescribed ritual purity supports dharmic merit (puṇya), which Garuḍa Purāṇa links to favorable post-death outcomes and reduced obstacles after death.

When performing pūjā (especially during monsoon), follow traditional purity steps—use pavitraka/darbha where prescribed and maintain cleanliness—so the practice aligns with śāstric injunction and intention.
