Gāruḍa-Māhātmya and Tārkṣya-Stotra: Fruits of Hearing/Reciting and the Power of Garuḍa’s Praise
Concept: श्रवण (Gāruḍa-śāstra) and विष्णु-ध्यान as direct means to सर्व-प्राप्ति (completeness of aims).
Vedantic Theme: Īśvara-upāsanā leading to antaḥkaraṇa-śuddhi and ultimately mokṣa; śāstra-śravaṇa as pramāṇa-sahakāri for right orientation.
Application: Daily śravaṇa/paṭhana of Garuḍa Purāṇa passages and a fixed Viṣṇu-dhyāna practice (japa + contemplation) as a disciplined routine.
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana (general): phalaśruti passages praising śravaṇa/paṭhana and Viṣṇu-smaraṇa (various adhyāyas)
This verse presents hearing (śravaṇa) of the Garuḍa teaching as spiritually potent—so effective that it is said to grant “all attainments,” indicating purification, right understanding, and readiness for liberation.
By pairing “hearing the teaching” with “meditating on Viṣṇu,” it implies that right knowledge and Viṣṇu-centered devotion are core supports for transcending fear and confusion associated with death and the afterlife themes discussed in the Garuda Purana.
Regularly listen to or study sacred teachings with attention, and cultivate daily Viṣṇu-dhyāna (remembrance/meditation); together they strengthen ethical living, inner steadiness, and a death-aware spiritual orientation.
