Concept: Āgama/itihāsa-style paramparā as pramāṇa; the Garuḍa-teaching as viṣa-nāśaka and protective vidyā

Vedantic Theme: Śruti-smṛti-ācārya-prasiddhi as a means to right knowledge; śraddhā in sampradāya

Application: Approach the teaching with reverence to lineage; use the Garuḍa-vidyā as a protective discipline (especially against viṣa/bhaya) under proper instruction.

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shanta

FAQs

This verse introduces Garuḍa-vidyā as an authoritative teaching traced to Garuḍa himself, emphasizing a preserved lineage and its reputed power to counteract poison.

It frames the teaching as a handed-down tradition: Garuḍa proclaimed it, Sumitra served as the transmitter, and Kaśyapa was the recipient—now Dhanvantari re-expounds it.

It underscores relying on authentic lineage and careful instruction for specialized practices (mantras/ritual knowledge), rather than using powerful remedies without proper guidance.
