Vāta-vyādhi Nidāna and Lakṣaṇa: Obstruction, Dhātu-Seating, and Major Neuromuscular Entities
Lord Vishnu (teaching Garuda)
Dosha: Vata
Concept: Śuddha-vāta pakṣa is hardest to cure; mixed-doṣa kṛcchra, when aggravated, leads to kṣaya (wasting).
Vedantic Theme: Causality (hetu-phala) in the body mirrors karma-like determinacy; compounded causes intensify outcomes.
Application: Assess whether pathology is pure vāta or saṃsṛṣṭa (mixed); prevent vivṛddhi (aggravation) through diet, rest, and timely therapy to avoid wasting.
Primary Rasa: jnana
Secondary Rasa: karuna
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.166.36 (asādhya markers); Garuda Purana 1.166.40 (asādhya daṇḍāpatānaka)
This verse stresses that disorders dominated by pure vāta are especially hard to treat, highlighting the need for early balancing of vāta through regimen and therapy.
It does not directly describe the soul’s journey; instead, it presents a dharmic-āyurvedic teaching that preserving the body through proper treatment supports one’s capacity to follow dharma.
Address vāta-aggravating habits early (irregular sleep, fasting, overexertion), and seek timely care—mixed and aggravated conditions are described as leading to wasting.
