Schon durch ein Gähnen brachte Bala drei Arten von Frauen hervor: svairiṇī, kāmiṇī und puṁścalī. Die svairiṇīs heiraten Männer aus der eigenen Gruppe; die kāmiṇīs nehmen Männer aus jeder Gruppe; die puṁścalīs wechseln einen Ehemann nach dem anderen. Betritt ein Mann Atala, ergreifen ihn diese Frauen sogleich und lassen ihn ein berauschendes Getränk trinken, bereitet aus einer Droge namens hāṭaka; dadurch erhält er gewaltige sexuelle Kraft. Dann bezaubern sie ihn mit verführerischen Blicken, vertrauten Worten, Liebeslächeln und Umarmungen, bis er zu ihrem vollen Genuss mit ihnen verkehrt. Vom Zuwachs an Kraft berauscht, hält er sich für stärker als zehntausend Elefanten und prahlt: „Ich bin Gott, ich bin vollkommen“, blind vor trügerischem Stolz und die nahende Todesstunde missachtend.
