Nābhāga’s Inheritance, Śiva’s Verdict, and the Rise of Ambarīṣa—Prelude to Durvāsā’s Offense

In Bhagavad-gītā (10.34) it is said, mṛtyuḥ sarva-haraś cāham: when the Supreme Personality of Godhead approaches as death, or the supreme controller of time, He takes everything away. In other words, all opulence, prestige and everything we possess is given by the Supreme Lord for some purpose. It is the duty of the surrendered soul to execute the orders of the Supreme. No one can disregard Him. Under the circumstances, Lord Brahmā refused to give shelter to Durvāsā Muni from the powerful Sudarśana cakra sent by the Lord.
This verse states that even Brahmā, Śiva, Dakṣa, great sages, and the lords of beings and gods submit to and uphold the Supreme Lord’s ordinance, which is meant for the welfare of all worlds.
Brahmā cites the highest cosmic authorities to show that no one is independent of the Supreme Lord—everyone, from creators and destroyers to administrators and sages, carries out His will for universal harmony.
Recognize that true leadership and duty mean aligning personal actions with dharma and the greater good (loka-hita), practicing humility, and accepting higher guidance rather than acting from ego or rivalry.
