Śrīla Jīva Gosvāmī explains the sequence of events that occurred during Lord Kṛṣṇa’s stay with the Pāṇḍavas. He states that first the Khāṇḍava forest was burned, then Kālindī was found, then the city was constructed, and then the assembly hall was presented to the Pāṇḍavas.
This verse explains that Kṛṣṇa accepted the role of Arjuna’s charioteer to please His own devotees and to facilitate offering the Khāṇḍava forest to Agni.
It refers to the Khāṇḍava-dāha event, where Agni desired to consume the Khāṇḍava forest, and Kṛṣṇa assisted Arjuna so the offering could be completed.
Kṛṣṇa willingly serves and arranges extraordinary outcomes for the sake of His devotees—teaching that sincere devotion invites divine reciprocation and guidance in one’s duties.
