Yagyavalkya

अथ वा परिव्राड् विवर्णवासा मुण्डोऽपरिग्रहः शुचिरद्रोही भैक्षमाणो ब्रह्म भूयाय भवति । एष पन्थाः परिव्राजकानां वीराध्वनि वा अनाशके वा अपां प्रवेशे वा अग्निप्रवेशे वा महाप्रस्थाने वा । एष पन्था ब्रह्मणा हानुवित्तः तेन इति स संन्यासी ब्रह्मविदिति । एवमेवैष भगवन्निति वै याज्ञवल्क्यः ॥५॥

अथ । वा । परिव्राट् । विवर्ण-वासा । मुण्डः । अपरिग्रहः । शुचिः । अद्रोही । भैक्ष-मानः । ब्रह्म । भूयाय । भवति । एषः । पन्थाः । परिव्राजकानाम् । वीर-अध्वनि । वा । अनाशके । वा । अपाम् । प्रवेशे । वा । अग्नि-प्रवेशे । वा । महा-प्रस्थाने । वा । एषः । पन्थाः । ब्रह्मणा । ह । अनुवित्तः । तेन । इति । सः । संन्यासी । ब्रह्म-वित् । इति । एवम्-एव । एषः । भगवन् । इति । वै । याज्ञवल्क्यः ।

atha vā parivrāḍ vivarṇavāsā muṇḍo'parigrahaḥ śucir adrohī bhaikṣamāṇo brahma bhūyāya bhavati | eṣa panthāḥ parivrājakānāṃ vīrādhvani vā anāśake vā apāṃ praveśe vā agnipraveśe vā mahāprasthāne vā | eṣa panthā brahmaṇā hānuvittaḥ tena iti sa saṃnyāsī brahmavid iti | evam evaiṣa bhagavann iti vai yājñavalkyaḥ ||5||

অথবা যে পরিব্রাজক সন্ন্যাসী—বিবর্ণ বস্ত্রধারী, মুণ্ডিত, অপরিগ্রহী, শুচি, অদ্রোহী, ভিক্ষান্নে জীবিত—সে ব্রহ্মের অধিক পূর্ণ অবস্থার যোগ্য হয়। এটাই পরিব্রাজকদের পথ—বীরাধ্বনি, অথবা অনশন করে দেহত্যাগ, অথবা জলে প্রবেশ, অথবা অগ্নিতে প্রবেশ, অথবা মহাপ্রস্থান। এই পথ ব্রহ্মা কর্তৃকও জ্ঞাত/অনুসৃত; তাই সে সন্ন্যাসী ব্রহ্মবিদ্। এভাবেই, ভগবন্—যাজ্ঞবল্ক্য বললেন।॥৫॥

Or else, a wandering renunciant—wearing discolored garments, shaven-headed, without possessions, pure, non-hostile, living by alms—becomes fit for a fuller state of Brahman. This is the path of the wandering mendicants: on the ‘heroic road,’ or in fasting unto death, or by entering water, or by entering fire, or by the great departure. This path was indeed followed (known) by Brahmā; therefore, he is a renunciant, a knower of Brahman. Thus indeed (it is), O venerable one—so said Yājñavalkya.
