द्वितीयः सर्गः (Sarga 2): Sugriva’s Alarm and Hanuman’s Commission
शुद्धात्मानौ यदि त्वेतौ जानीहि त्वं प्लवङ्गम।व्याभाषितैर्वा विज्ञेया स्याद्दुष्टाऽदुष्टता तयोः।।
śuddhātmānau yadi tv etau jānīhi tvaṃ plavaṅgama | vyābhāṣitair vā vijñeyā syād duṣṭāduṣṭatā tayoḥ ||
হে প্লবঙ্গম! যদি এ দু’জন শুদ্ধচিত্ত হয়, তবে তা তুমি বুঝে নাও; কথাবার্তার মাধ্যমেই তাদের দুষ্টতা বা অদুষ্টতা নির্ণয় করা যাবে॥
Sugriva, lord of monkeys, extremely agitated at the sight of both Rama and Lakshmana, spoke to his minister:
Satya is approached through dialogue: dharma recommends testing intentions through respectful conversation rather than prejudice.
Sugrīva instructs Hanumān to determine whether the newcomers are trustworthy by speaking with them.
Discernment through speech (vāg-parīkṣā): judging character by words and manner.
