Chapter 58: Arjuna’s Deployment of the Indra-Weapon
दीर्घबाहुर्महातेजा बलरूपसमन्वित: । सर्वलोकेषु विक्रान्तो भारद्वाज: प्रतापवान्
arjuna uvāca |
dīrghabāhur mahātejā balarūpasamanvitaḥ |
sarvalokeṣu vikrānto bhāradvājaḥ pratāpavān |
অর্জুন বললেন—“দীর্ঘবাহু, মহাতেজস্বী, বল ও রূপে সমন্বিত, সর্বলোকেই পরাক্রমে প্রসিদ্ধ—তিনি প্রতাপশালী ভারদ্বাজপুত্র দ্রোণ।”
अजुन उवाच
The verse models the warrior-ethic of acknowledging true excellence—strength, splendor, and proven valor—even when it belongs to a formidable opponent. Such recognition supports disciplined judgment rather than envy or denial.
Arjuna identifies and describes Droṇa (called Bhāradvāja), emphasizing his heroic traits and widespread renown, as part of recognizing key figures and their martial stature in the unfolding events of the Virāṭa episode.
