Udyoga-parva Adhyāya 71 — Kṣatra-dharma Counsel, Public Legitimacy, and Mobilization

कुले जातस्य वृद्धस्य परवित्तेषु गृद्धयत: । लोभ: प्रज्ञानमाहन्ति प्रज्ञा हन्ति हता द्वियम्‌

kule jātasya vṛddhasya paravitteṣu gṛddhyataḥ | lobhaḥ prajñām āhanti prajñā hanti hatā dhriyam ||

উচ্চ কুলে জন্ম নিয়ে এবং বার্ধক্যে পৌঁছেও যদি কেউ পরের ধনে লালসা করে, তবে সেই লোভ তার বিবেচনাবুদ্ধিকে আঘাত করে নষ্ট করে; আর বিবেচনা নষ্ট হলে তা আবার তার লজ্জা-সংযমকেও বিনষ্ট করে।
