Strī Parva 1: Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Lament and Saṃjaya’s Consolation

Educational Q&A

Grief and anger, if indulged, scorch the person like fire-sparks; one should relinquish such agitation and stabilize the mind through buddhi (discernment) and self-mastery.

In the opening of Strī-parvan, amid the post-war lamentation, Vaiśaṃpāyana reports counsel aimed at calming overwhelming sorrow: the speaker urges restraint, warning that tears and rage can become destructive and must be checked by inner discipline.
