Brāhmaṇa-bheda-nirṇaya and Rājā’s Regulatory Duties (ब्राह्मणभेदनिर्णयः)

(यज्ञ: श्रुतमपैशुन्यमहिंसातिथिपूजनम्‌ । दम: सत्यं तपो दानमेतद्‌ ब्राह्मणलक्षणम्‌ ।।

yajñaḥ śrutam apaiśunyam ahiṃsā atithipūjanam | damaḥ satyaṃ tapo dānam etad brāhmaṇalakṣaṇam ||

ভীষ্ম বললেন—যজ্ঞ (অর্পণের ভাব), বেদাধ্যয়ন, নিন্দা-চর্চা থেকে বিরতি, মন-বাক্য-কর্মে কোনো প্রাণীকে কষ্ট না দেওয়া, অতিথি-সেবা, ইন্দ্রিয়-সংযম, সত্য, তপস্যা ও দান—এগুলোই ব্রাহ্মণের লক্ষণ।
