वैशग्पायन उवाच
Regular listening to, or memorizing, a sacred narrative preserves one’s learning: sincere śravaṇa (hearing) and dhāraṇa (retention) ensure that adhyayana (study/recitation) does not become wasted or lost.
The narrator Vaiśaṃpāyana states a phalaśruti (statement of benefits), declaring the spiritual and educational fruit of hearing or remembering the account—especially for a brāhmaṇa devoted to study.
