भीष्म उवाच
This verse is a colophon rather than a doctrinal statement: it signals that the Haṃsa-gītā—an instruction situated in Mokṣa-dharma—has concluded. Its ethical-spiritual frame is liberation-oriented dharma, emphasizing the completion of a teaching on self-knowledge and release.
The text formally closes a sub-teaching within Bhīṣma’s long instruction to Yudhiṣṭhira in the Śānti Parvan. It marks the end of the Haṃsa-gītā discourse and identifies the chapter count as the 299th.
