Śoka-śamana: Kṛṣṇa’s Consolation and Nārada’s Exempla to Sṛñjaya
Chapter 29
स चेन्ममार सूंजय चतुर्भद्रतरस्त्वया । पुत्रात् पुण्यतरश्वैव मा पुत्रमनुतप्यथा:
sa cen mamāra suñjaya caturbhadrataras tvayā | putrāt puṇyataras caiva mā putram anutapyathāḥ ||
বায়ু বললেন—“হে সুঞ্জয়! যারা তোমার চেয়ে চার কল্যাণগুণে অধিক সমৃদ্ধ এবং তোমার পুত্রের চেয়েও অধিক পুণ্যবান, তারাও মৃত্যুবরণ করেছে। তবে তোমার পুত্রেরই বা মৃত্যুর বিরুদ্ধে কী বিশেষ অধিকার আছে? অতএব পুত্রের জন্য শোক কোরো না।”

Death is universal and does not spare even those who are more virtuous or more excellently endowed; therefore excessive grief is to be restrained, and one should cultivate steadiness and acceptance in accordance with dharma.
Vāyudeva addresses Suñjaya, reasoning with him to lessen his sorrow: if even superior and highly meritorious persons have died, Suñjaya should not be overwhelmed by grief for his own son.
