असित उवाच येभ्य: सृजति भूतानि काले भावप्रचोदित: । महाभूतानि पज्चेति तान्याहुर्भूतचिन्तका:

asita uvāca | yebhyaḥ sṛjati bhūtāni kāle bhāvapracoditaḥ | mahābhūtāni pañceti tāny āhur bhūtacintakāḥ ||

অসিতদেবল বললেন—হে দেবর্ষে! সৃষ্টিকালে পরমাত্মা প্রাণীদের ভাব-বাসনা দ্বারা প্রেরিত হয়ে, কালের অনুকূলে যে তত্ত্বসমূহ থেকে সকল ভূতের সৃষ্টি করেন, ভৌতিক তত্ত্বচিন্তকেরা সেগুলিকে ‘পঞ্চ মহাভূত’ বলে থাকেন।
