व्यास उवाच
True dharmic discipline can be expressed through regulated living and firm vows; simplicity in food (roots, fruits, flowers) symbolizes mastery over desire and commitment to austerity.
Vyāsa describes categories of vow-observing ascetics, distinguishing them by what they subsist on, to illustrate varying practices of renunciation and steadfastness.
