आत्मदर्शन-उपदेशः (Ātma-darśana Upadeśa) — Mind, Senses, and the All-pervading Self
अन्य युगोंमें शास्त्रोक्त धर्मका क्रमश: एक-एक चरण क्षीण होता जाता है और चोरी, असत्य तथा छल-कपट आदिके द्वारा अधर्मकी वृद्धि होने लगती है ।।
anye yugeṣu śāstroktasya dharmasya kramaśa ekaikaḥ pādaḥ kṣīyate, cauryānṛta-chala-kapaṭādibhiś cādharmasya vṛddhir bhavati. arogāḥ sarva-siddhārthāś catur-varṣa-śatāyuṣaḥ kṛte; tretā-yuge tv eṣāṃ pādaśo hrasate vayaḥ.
অন্য যুগগুলিতে শাস্ত্রবিধিত ধর্ম ক্রমে ক্রমে এক এক পাদ করে ক্ষয় পায়; আর চৌর্য, অসত্য ও ছল-কপটের ফলে অধর্ম বৃদ্ধি পেতে থাকে। কৃত (সত্য) যুগে মানুষ নিরোগ থাকে, তাদের সকল উদ্দেশ্য সিদ্ধ হয় এবং তারা চারশো বছর বাঁচে; ত্রেতা যুগ এলে তাদের আয়ু এক চতুর্থাংশ কমে যায়—এবং পরবর্তী যুগগুলিতেও তেমনি ক্রমে হ্রাস পায়।

Dharma, as upheld by śāstra, weakens progressively across the yugas; as virtues decline, theft, falsehood, and deceit expand, and human wellbeing—symbolized by health and lifespan—also diminishes.
Vyāsa is instructing about the characteristics of the world-ages: in Kṛta people are healthy and long-lived, and with the advent of later yugas their lifespan reduces stepwise, alongside a rise of adharma through unethical behaviors.
