Adhyāya 179 — Bharadvāja’s Reductionist Inquiry into Jīva and Pañcabhūta Dissolution
anatraivodāharantīmaṃ bodhyasya padasaṃcayam | nirvedaṃ prati vinyastaṃ taṃ nibodha yudhiṣṭhira ||
Bhishma frames the next instruction as a quotation from sage Bodhya, explicitly oriented toward nirveda (dispassion/renunciation). The core point is that the forthcoming counsel is meant to cultivate detachment and ethical clarity rather than worldly ambition.
In the Shanti Parva’s post-war instruction, Bhishma continues advising Yudhishthira. Here he introduces a set of verses attributed to the sage Bodhya, telling Yudhishthira to listen, as these sayings are arranged with renunciation as their focus.
